Foot/Ankle Pain | Houston, TX
Did you know that women are four times more likely to suffer from foot/ankle problems than men due to the types of shoes they wear? One of the most popular types of shoes women love to wear are high heels, which are some of the worst shoes for the feet. It is thought that a 2 inch heel can increase pressure by 57% on the forefoot.
The foot is classified into three subdivisions including the forefoot, midfoot, and the hind foot. The forefoot is the front part of the foot and includes the toes. The middle and arch of the foot consists of several bones which make up the midfoot. The hind foot includes the calcaneus, the bone that forms the heel, as well as the talus. The talus rests above the calcaneus and forms the ankle joint along with the tibia, the shin bone, and the fibula in the lower leg. In addition to 26 bones, the foot and ankle utilize over 100 ligaments, tendons, and muscles in order to function properly. Any type of injury to the foot can be irritating and even debilitating, at times.
If you are experiencing foot and/or ankle pain it is important to get evaluated by a physician before your pain becomes debilitating. Dr. Shaun Lehmann has years of experience treating foot and ankle pain arising from various causes. During your initial visit, the physician will gather a comprehensive medical history, perform a physical exam. The physician will order diagnostic testing such as ultrasound, X-Ray, MRI or CT scan, if necessary, to further evaluate your condition. Once the physician has determined your diagnosis, he will educate and discuss your diagnosis with you and which treatments will be most beneficial.
