Laser Therapy
Laser therapy (LT) is a painless, non-invasive, treatment which was recently approved by the FDA for treatment of injuries, wounds, myofascial pain, and many other musculoskeletal conditions. It is usually covered by insurance.
How it works:
Laser supplies energy to the body in the form of light (at a wavelength of 830 nm). These light waves have been found by researchers to penetrate the soft tissue and stimulate tissue regeneration as well as have an anti-inflammatory effect. This is backed by over 12 years of clinical research in the United States. Unlike surgical lasers, lasers do not produce heat or damage tissue. There are no reported long-term or irreversible side effects.
Most patients, whose condition is deemed appropriate for laser by a medical doctor, notice an immediate improvement in their condition.
Some of the benefits include:
- Accelerated healing from certain sports injuries
- Helps generate new/healthy cells and tissue
- Promotes faster wound healing
- Reduces inflammation
- Can help reduce pain
Laser is one of the many tools available for treating musculoskeletal conditions. Any patient with musculoskeletal injury or pain must have a complete medical history and physical exam performed by an experienced physician before treatment options are explored.
